Dearest Friends,

Shh! Can you hear it? Pure pleasure! I think it’s a woman’s sigh as she buries her head into a bouquet of roses and inhales Heaven.

Could that woman be you? I hope so!

But, if in your busy life you can’t seem to find the time to smell the roses, then please take a pause that refreshes and visit me at our website www.simpleabundance.com.

Here you’ll find kindred spirits—women just like you and me who love Home Comforts, Earthly Delights, Vintage Bliss and Everyday Grace. Roses are just one of the bliss triggers were celebrating this June and I don’t want you to miss any of our reassuring rituals of comfort and joy.

Did you know that down through the centuries roses have been valued not only for their beauty, but for their fragrance, flavour and medicinal properties. Roses have been food and drink. Decoration and declaration. Seduction and sedition. Mystery, as well as revelation. How many other flowers can be seen, sniffed, eaten or drunk, and dabbed on?

In pre-Victorian times innumerable dessert recipes used rose water as a flavoring, just as we use vanilla extract. In the Middle East and across South Asia, rose water is still used as a refreshing addition to many culinary delights, from rice dishes to yogurt drinks. And, of course, rose water is an important ingredient of many cosmetic preparations. In overlooking the boundless gifts of the rose, we are cheating ourselves of romance that women all over the world have cherished since Eve plucked the first rose (I’m sure!) and tucked it behind her ear. What color do you think it was?

One of my favorite little cookbooks is an Old English volume called Rose Recipes. From rose-hip marmalade to pickled rosebuds to rose-flavored sugar, it’s quite amazing how many wondrous remedies and recipes relied on roses. I’ll be sharing some of these charming recipes with our members, and I invite you to join our fun this month as we revel in these joyful simplicities.

Sending you love, blessings and a bouquet of roses for remembrance,
